Digital Safety Reflection
All four of these topics
cover all the aspects of how to safely browse the web as cyber safety concerns
are becoming immeasurable important when interacting with people or websites on
a computer, typically through the internet. When using the internet, you are
ultimately making connections to strangers so it is extremely important to
understand the risks behind online behavior. Fair User Practices and Copyright Act is important especially when working with content that is not
yours. According to the Ohio State University, Fair use is "to solely
protect creators rights...copyright is intended to promote progress, creativity
and innovation for the benefit of society as a whole (2014). Cyberbullying is rampant nowadays as everyone has digital devices.
As stated by stop
bullying.gov, cyberbullying includes sending, posting or sharing negative,
harmful, false or mean content about someone else. It can include sharing
personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or
humiliation. Some instances of cyberbullying crosses the line into unlawful or
criminal behavior (2013). It's always important to report cyberbullying as it
can negatively affect a person's life. This also ties in with textual
harassment and sexting, which usually involves sending repetitive messages via
cellphone or over the internet. I would keep all the topics if I were to
personally teach them to students. I would probably remove textual harassment
and sexting as it can be covered under cyber bullying. If I ever do decide to
teach these topics, I will have each student write up an assignment of a real
life situation of every topic covered under digital safety, so each person can
safely identify and be much more alert when it does happen.
Our web conferencing
tools was just through whatsapp, and google docs. We basically split up our
parts of our presentation and have each person specialize in their topic. I
believe our group cooperates well, and our content flowed well because we
prepared ahead of time for the presentation. Whatsapp is a good conferencing
tool as we just think communicating through text is sufficient to get the
message through.
